The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is that this computer is huge and heavy. They advertise it as a 13 inch laptop and the screen does measure 13 inches (diagonal), but the machine does not even fit into a 14 inch laptop sleeve that I owned. I had to get a case for a 15 inch laptop to protect this. Total size of the laptop is 13 x 10.6 x 1.0 inches, which is about the width of a 14 inch laptop and the depth of a 15 inch laptop, with only a 13 inch screen. Amazon does give you the option to buy a form fitting case with this laptop and that is certainly something to consider (if the price is reasonable). According to my scale the laptop weighs 88 ounces (5.5 pounds), which is twice as much as some 13 inch laptops and more than most 15 inch laptops. The power brick is 28 ounces, which is also quite a big heavier (and more powerful) than typical laptop chargers. I'm not saying that these sizes and weights are unreasonable, just that you probably want to know what you are buying.
In case you are wondering (like I was), the power brick is hidden in a secret compartment in the back of the box (see photo).
Once I have the machine setup, it performs beautifully. I disabled MICROSOFT Cortana and MICROSOFT Maps and MICROSOFT advertising services, MICROSOFT location services, etc and replaced the MICROSOFT audio and video players with VLC because after my experience setting up this machine, I really do not trust any of that stuff. I don't have an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive yet, so I didn't test the VR features of this laptop yet.
Quad-core CPU, NVIDIA graphics, SSD hard disc, and 16GB of RAM is blazing fast. Probably the fastest PC I have ever used. Each one of those components boosts performance in different ways and I've never had them all together in one machine before. This is like PC heaven.
There's no getting around the fact that MICROSOFT Windows 10 is a pain in the you know where, especially to initially setup. If you have the technical ability, experience, patience, etc to work around MICROSOFT, then this is a fantastic laptop. Alienware makes several different 13 inch laptops. This is one of the mid-priced models. The higher end models have OLED touchscreen displays, which may be a little more exciting for you high-end gaming people. Lower-end Alienware laptops are best used for plugging into external monitors."
